==2.1 Wiki platform== {| class="wikitable" style="color:#a63603; align:left; margin-right: 10px; background-color:#fee6ce;" cellpadding="10"; width="100%" | The wiki platform turns PRAGMO into a live document that can be updated as new monitoring methods are created and new evidence is published. The majority of pages have been reviewed by experts but in some cases that has not been possible. Where a page has not been reviewed by an expert, there will be an orange box like this indicating that a review is still required. If you are an expert in a field or technique and would like to contribute to this resource, please [mailto:rrc@therrc.co.uk email RRC.] |} ==2.2 Why use this guidance?== Monitoring of river restoration projects has, in the past, tended to be 'ad hoc' with little thought given to how the process fits with the project design, implementation, peopleโs time commitment and the time required to analyse the information collected. As a result, river restoration monitoring, even when completed, is rarely adequate to measure success or failure since project objectives are not sufficiently specific or targeted towards delivering any measurable outcomes. Improving monitoring will allow practitioners, stakeholders and other parties interested in river restoration to assess the optimum and most cost-effective methods to use for their particular requirements. This guidance should enable funders and managers to set up a monitoring strategy from the beginning of a project that will then be able to answer specific questions, including: "how can you demonstrate that a project has achieved its aims and objectives?โ. A summary of the key processes which need to be considered when developing a monitoring strategy, with links to the relevant parts of the documents, is provided in Section 2.8. This is then translated into a simple flow diagram (Figure 2.1) showing how to get to a point where you can implement your monitoring strategy. ==2.3 Navigating the guide== There are several ways to navigate through this guide and access useful information for your monitoring strategy: * The sidebar on the left provides links to each chapter. * Chapter 3 contains a flow diagram outlining the current best practice scientific approach to monitoring, with links to the relevant sections of the guide. * Chapter 3 also contains a more general decision tree which asks questions about the current status of your monitoring plan and directs you to the sections of the guide which will help you to progress it. * A full list of monitoring techniques with links to pages providing more information can be found in Chapter 14 Techniques A-Z. * A free Monitoring Planner is available to help you set up, structure and organise your monitoring strategy.
